Immigrate to Canada

Currently, there are over 60 different permanent immigration programs to Canada.  If you want to immigrate to Canada, you need to apply through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The type of application you need depends on which immigration program you want to apply under. The right program to choose depends on your work and education history, language ability and capability to settle successfully in Canada.

Immigrate through Express Entry

Express Entry (EE) is an online immigration application system. It allows people to submit a profile and be considered as a skilled immigrant. Candidates with the highest rankings are invited to apply for permanent residency. Express Entry is not an immigration program itself, but rather a system used by IRCC to select candidates for immigration to Canada using under these federal economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • A division of Provincial Nominee Programs;

The other Immigration Programs for permanent residency in Canada include:

  • Family sponsorship
  • Investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed
  • Provincial nominees
  • Refugees

For temporary residence in Canada, you can apply under the following categories:

  • Foreign students
  • Temporary foreign workers
  • Visitors

All applications are evaluated on specific requirements and regulations. You may need to meet certain health and security requirements.  IRCC may also want to interview you or see other documentation. Depending on the immigration category, applications are either made from outside or inside Canada. Usually, you have to pay a fee for each application you make. If your application is refused, you will not get a refund. Information and other assistance at IRCC offices is free.
